8-Week Pre-Season Hurling Program incorporating Conditioning, Speed, Agility and Strength elements to help you peak for the season ahead!

Description

I know that this may come as a surprise, but 60-year old Paschal, who hurled for 6 years with the county intermediates, doesn’t really have a clue what he’s talking about when it comes to physical training. Running in excess of 8km, 4x a week is not going to make you boys win the county championship this year. And despite what he says, there are other teams out there that are working just as hard as you are.
If you’re interested in taking your game to the next level, then you’ve got to hit the ground running when Championship rolls around. Your S&C program should enable you to do just that and a progressive approach to re-conditioning your body will help you return bigger, faster and stronger than ever before, whilst helping you avoid injury along the way.
Any decent pre-season program has got to encompass all components of the game, and this 8-week program does just that. With a comprehensive and progressive approach to running, weight-training, speed and agility training, this program is the perfect opportunity for you to train like a county star and shock the rival parish this summer.

The program encompasses an 8-week progression through strength, conditioning, speed and change of direction/agility elements. There are 2-3 strength sessions/week, 2 conditioning sessions/week and 1-2 speed/agility sessions/week included.
Access to a gym is preferable for completion of the program. However, you will be able to complete the conditioning, speed and agility sessions without the use of a gym. You may be able to complete the plyometrics, bodyweight exercises and some of the gym-based strength training with minimal equipment. Variations are provided for every exercise.
I have worked with a broad range of GAA players. Some have played at an inter-county level, and others have struggled to make their local club side. The goal of the program is to offer an elite standard of programming and coaching, to players that would otherwise not be lucky enough to experience it. So for that reason, the program is suitable for all adult GAA players.
The conditioning sessions and some elements of the strength sessions are individualized on a positional basis. There are also tiered exercise progressions based off of the individual’s own personal level of fitness and experience.
If you have a persistent injury, you will not be able to complete every aspect of this program. As with anything, you may experience some benefit in your unaffected qualities, but I suggest that a more personalized approach would be more beneficial for you. Either consult with a physiotherapist and supplement your rehabilitation with this program. Or alternatively, contact me for a consultation and a more personalized rehabilitation program, in in-person or online coaching.
